Youth Ministry

grades 6 to 12

Mission:

The youth of SUMC will connect and grow in their faith as they follow Jesus Christ, so that they may become His disciples.

Connect. Grow. Follow.

Life Verse:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29: 11

Vision:

Spiritual formation + Personal Connection w/ Christ = Discipleship

1.     Worship – How do we give God thanks and praise for what He has done? Providing an engaging environment where youth actively participate in the service as they give God thanks and praise for all He is and all He has done.

2.

3.     Study – How do we come to know who God is and how He wants us to live? Being intentional in how youth learn who God is and how His story relates to their everyday lives.

4.

3. Service - How and why do we serve God in our world? – support and empower youth as they learn to serve others and be the hands and feet of Christ in our world.

5.     Fellowship – How do we act in our communities (school, church, friends) to please God? - Gathering as friends and neighbors to build relationships in Christian love

6.

5. Outreach – How do we share God’s dream and tell others about God? connect with others in our community to share the hope of Jesus Christ.

Stanardsville United Methodist Church seeks to reflect God’s love of all children and youth and provide for their spiritual wholeness.   As the Body of Christ we strive to provide a safe space for children and youth to discover God and experience His great love. We strive to teach and nurture children and youth along their faith journey through worship, bible study, fellowship, and service.  And finally we encourage parents and caregivers as they connect with their children and youth.   We welcome children and youth to come and be a part of what God is doing in this place and at this

Sunday School Small Group for Youth – grades 6 -9th

We are having some great talks as we view videos each week from Skit Guys.  It’s fun, easy and tells the story of Christ’s love for us.

Join us in the Youth Room downstairs

Youth Group meets the 2nd and 4th Sunday nights from 6:30- 8:30pm.  A time for friends to gather, share food and fun, and grow in their relationship with each other and Christ.    Past events included Country Westren Theme Night, Advent Surprise, Trips to Massanutten Water Park

Student Leaders- Youth are invited and encouraged to participate in the life of the church in a variety of ways such as serving on committees, council, teaching and helping with younger children, in mission projects and in worship as liturgists, acolytes, greeters, ushers and more.  See Julie for more info

Confirmation-   offers youth the opportunity to confirm the baptismal vows made on their behalf as infants and claim Christ as their Lord and Savior for themselves. In the United Methodist Church this is traditionally done during the 6th grade, but older youth are welcome to be a part of this opportunity as well.  Upon completion of confirmation classes, the Confirmation Retreat and Confirmation vows, each youth participant will be given the opportunity to profess their faith and join in membership in the Body of Christ at SUMC.

TAT- Tweens and Teens- Grades 6 and up- A special midweek After School event on Wednesdays from 3-5pm that provides a safe, structured place for kids to gather, have free time, share and grow in relationships with each other and adults.  Contact Carol Recknor for more info.
