Youth Ministry

The Point for Children’s and Youth Ministry

Provide safe space for children and youth to discover God

Teach and nurture children and youth along their faith journey
Encourage parents as they connect with their children and youth

Youth at SUMC

-Teen Extreme Youth Group- Grades 6 through 12- 2nd and 4th Sunday Evenings from 6-8pm.  A time for friends to gather, share food and fun, and grow in their relationship with each other and Christ.   Fall and Spring retreats are scheduled.

-Sunday Morning Grapple- Grades 6 through 12- Each week in the Orange Room at 10am.  This small group time gives youth creative ways to discover more about God’s word and how it relates to them.

-Student Leaders- Youth will be invited and encouraged throughout the year to participate in the life of the church in a variety of ways such as serving on committees, council, teaching and helping with younger children, in mission projects and in worship as liturgists, acolytes, greeters, ushers and more.

-Confirmation-   offers youth the opportunity to confirm the baptismal vows made on their behalf as infants and claim Christ as their Lord and Savior for themselves. In the United Methodist Church this is traditionally done during the 6th grade, but older youth are welcome to be a part of this opportunity as well.  Upon completion of confirmation classes, the Confirmation Retreat and Confirmation vows, each youth participant will be given the opportunity to profess their faith and join in membership in the Body of Christ at SUMC.  Contact Pastor Catharine at 985-3888 for more information.

TAT- Tweens and Teens- Grades 6 and up- A special midweek After School event on Wednesdays from 3-5pm that provides a safe, structured place for kids to gather, have free time, share and grow in relationships with each other and adults.  Often times kids go on field trips, have special dinners, and enjoy guest speakers.  Contact Carol Recknor for more info.

Family Ministries - SUMC encourages and supports families to grow in faith together through service, fellowship and discipleship.   Family Ministry Events include camping and adventure trips to the park, zoo, ice skating; softball team; serving at the Greene County Fair or Tuesdays Table.  Many families also attend events such as Awakening Fest, Winter Fest and other Christian concerts.

Give thanks unto the Lord!!
Happy Thanksgiving all

I know many of you enjoy giving gifts with purpose that help others. Here is a link to the UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/media/pdf%20files/giftcatalogcolor.pdf. There are lots of great ways that you can make a difference in others lives through the connection of the United Methodist Church.... It's also a great way to teach kids about giving.
