Children's Ministry

The Point for Children’s and Youth Ministry

Provide safe space for children and youth to discover God

Teach and nurture children and youth along their faith journey

Encourage parents as they connect with their children and youth

 

Nursery Care for babies and toddlers up through age 2 is offered from 8:30-12:30 each Sunday morning.  Bottle warmers, changing pads, rocking chairs, pac n play and high chairs are available as needed.   Babies and Toddlers receive God’s love through caring hearts and hands, music, prayer time, story time and play time.

 

Children’s Church at 8:30 – Age 3 through 1st grade – Children are invited to leave the sanctuary and share in a special message in the Preschool Room.  Children learn about God’s amazing love for them through bible time, creative music, fun games, prayer and art. Children in grades 2 and higher are recommended to stay with parents in the sanctuary for family worship 

Sunday School at 10:00 – As God’s children wanting to know and love God, Sunday School provides a great time for small group study, discussion and belonging.   Classes are available for all ages from birth-92.  Preschool Sunday School- Ages 3 through Kindergarten and Elementary Sunday School – Grades 1-5, use Group’s Living Inside Out large group/small group format.  We begin large group in the sanctuary at 10:00am.

Preschool Children’s Worship at 11:00 – Ages 3 through pre K- Children are invited to gather in the Preschool Room as they leave the sanctuary for a fun, creative time of sharing in God’s story.  Each month, the children learn a different theme about how God loves as they enjoy arts and crafts, music, bible time, active play, creative games, snack time, puppets and more. 

Elementary Children’s Worship at 11:00 – Kindergarten – 5th grade – Children gather in the Rainbow Room after leaving the sanctuary for their very own Worship.   Bringing in the Light of Christ starts our service as we sing praise songs and dance, share in prayer time, worship with our offerings and celebrate the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Each week’s bible lesson is related to the pastors’ sermon to enhance family growing in faith together. 

Family Ministries - SUMC encourages and supports families to grow in faith together through service, fellowship and discipleship.   Family Ministry Events include camping and adventure trips to the park, zoo, ice skating; softball team; serving at the Greene County Fair or Tuesdays Table.  Many families also attend events such as Awakening Fest, Winter Fest and other Christian concerts. 

Elementary Wednesdays begins September 28th

for Grades 3-5 -It provides a safe space for children to gather for fellowship with friends. children can enjoy silly games, art, special projects, theme days, music and more.  This ministry is after school for kids in grades 3-5 and offers kids a time of fellowship, silly fun, snacks, music and more. We meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm. Your children may ride the bus over w/ signed permission slip/consent. Parents to pick up children from church at 4:30pm. Loving Hearts and Hands – Also known as the Children’s Ministry Team are those called by God to disciple and nurture the faith journeys of all SUMC children and youth; and those of the community.  If you would like to be a part of this amazing group to build up the next generation of Christians that will lead our church, community and world; please contact Julie Nitzsche for more info 

MOPS of Greene-(Mothers of Preschoolers) - for all moms who desire to connect with other moms and share the journey of motherhood in a supportive, Christian environment.  Meeting times are the first Thursday of each month from 7-9pm with food, fun, games, guest speakers, music and more.  MOPPETS (childcare) is available by RSVP on the previous Monday.  Go to www.mops.org for info or contact Julie Nitzsche

Circle of Friends – special gatherings for children ages 3 through 5th grade throughout the year.   Children and families come together to play, learn, and witness the amazing love of Christ.  Special events include Fall Festival, Advent Birthday Party for Jesus, St. Valentines Party, Fat Tuesday Celebration, Spring Festival, and Back to School Bash.  CoF also participates in various opportunities to serve and witness to the community such as the Fall Bazaar, Strawberry Festival, Stop Hunger Now, GRACE Christmas tree project and more.  All events are open to the community.  See Katie Brunelle and Kelly Shifflett for more info. 

Vacation Bible School- Ages 2 and up-  dates to be announced -VBS offers children and youth student leaders an action packed, biblically based, crazy fun week of being with friends, sharing the love of Christ and understanding God’s purpose.  Past themes have included Safari Park, Beach Beatitudes, Camp Edge and Shaking it Up Café. 

Summer Fun Days- Ages 2 and up – dates TBA – A summer long event that offers outreach to the community for children and families to share in special projects such as gardening, cooking, music, art, puppets and missions.   

Children’s Choir- Ages 5 and up- offers children the opportunity to share their musical talents as an offering to God.  The choir sings during special services each 5th Sunday, Christmas and Easter.  Contact Carol Haas and Beverly Lamb for more info
