 CONNECT - GROW - SERVE
We understand that we exist as God’s church primarily to make
more and better followers of Jesus Christ. To accomplish this we
seek to partner with God using a pathway for following Jesus we
call Connect – Grow – and Serve.
On this pathway we want to help persons connect with God in
meaningful ways inside the church through compelling worship,
and outside the church through the work of our Congregational
Care Team. This team reaches out to newcomers in our community and follows up with the
ongoing needs of our congregation.
To grow involves our call to help persons become more spiritually formed. We offer
programs, studies, and ministries designed to help deepen our understanding of God and our
faith.
To serve engages us with our community outside the church. We are involved in mission
and outreach programs that are meant to help those in our community who are in need.
We invite you to join us on this pathway. Should you have any questions or would like to
become more involved, please contact Pastor Chuck at 434-985-3888.

                                                   STANARDSVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

WHAT WE BELIEVE

At Stanardsville United Methodist Church we affirm our belief in the one living and true God in whom there are three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We witness to the presence of God’s grace, God’s unmerited favor toward us, revealed to us in God’s Son Jesus Christ, and constantly at work in and through us in our daily lives through the power of the Holy Spirit.

We believe it is God’s grace that first comes to us convincing us of our need for God. Through grace, once we have repented of our sins, we are forgiven and our relationship with God is reconciled and restored. This same grace continues to work in our lives drawing us ever closer into the very likeness of God in Jesus Christ and creating in us a strong faith relationship with him. Our salvation then is by God’s grace through our faith in Jesus Christ.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit we seek to understand and communicate to others the love of God given to us in Jesus Christ. As we grow in understanding, we reflect critically on four guidelines in matters of our faith. First, we believe in the primacy of Scripture as necessary to our salvation and to the revelation of God. Second, we rely on our Christian traditions as authentic and faithful witness to the message of Scripture. In order to be effective in our witness to Scripture and the traditions of the church, we rely thirdly on our own Christian experience along with lastly our reason. We seek confirmation within our own experiences of the truth of God’s grace, and we engage our God given minds as the practical source of reason for providing insight to the deeper meaning of our faith.
