Dear Stanardsville UMC,
I never imagined that my move to a new church would look this way, saying goodbye to my current church and meeting you in the midst of a global pandemic. I am sure this is not the way you imagined honoring Pastor Chuck, the time he has spent with you and the wonderful ministry you have done together. During this time apart, we long to be together and in the midst of this transition, I look forward to meeting each of you in person, getting to know your story, and sharing life with you. In the meantime, as I prepare to begin my time as your pastor on June 30th, I wanted to share a bit of my story.
My name is Devon Earle and my husband Rob will be moving from Alexandria, Virginia where I have been serving for the past five years as the Associate Pastor at Fairlington United Methodist Church. One of the greatest gifts of ministry is getting to be present in the many seasons of your lives, the raw moments and the beautiful ones. I am passionate about connecting the church with the community, sharing God’s love with people in all stages and places of life, engaging in ministry together, and leading creative worship. I am excited for the dreams you have within your community, especially the launch of Stanardsville Station and the ways that you are deeply connected with mission and outreach in your community.
I am the oldest of four girls and grew up just south of Richmond in Midlothian. During my senior year in high school, I began listening to the call God had on my life and that following fall began my time at Randolph-Macon College, as an A. Purnell Bailey Pre-ministerial scholar. After graduating from college, I entered Duke Divinity School and graduated in May of 2015 with a Master’s of Divinity. As I explored my call to ministry I have served in various internships in churches (including Crozet UMC down the road from you), in a hospital, at the Virginia Conference Office, and at a United Methodist Children’s Home. In June of 2018, I was ordained as an Elder in Full Connection. My husband and I met in youth group in high school and got married in August of 2014. Robert is currently a Special Education Coordinator and is enrolled at American University where he will be getting his Master's in Education with a focus on Educational Policy and Leadership. We have a Cairn Terrier, Myra, who looks like Toto from the Wizard of Oz. We enjoy exploring new places, getting to know new people, and spending time outdoors. We are grateful to be joining the Stanardsville faith family!
