Our Pathway for Following Jesus Christ is to Connect - Grow - and Serve
Our Mission-We seek to make more and better followers of Jesus Christ by making strong connections with Jesus; by helping all followers to grow spiritually; and by serving our community’s physical needs.
Return to In-Person Worship
Dear Stanardsville United Methodist Church,
Since March, we have been longing to gather together for worship. During this time apart we have witnessed that church is not a building but people. We have learned to be the people who call to check on each other, who gather together in creative ways with zoom calls, porch visits, and online worship, who continue to encourage and pray for each other, and who grow in faith as we find ways to be the Body of Christ during COVID-19. After much prayer, discernment, and discussion, our Healthy Church Team has decided to offer in-person worship beginning this Sunday, September 20th at 10:30am in our sanctuary. For this to happen, everyone who attends in-person worship must follow the rules and requirements that have been put in place by the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. We also know that there are risks involved with gathering in community and will continue to offer online worship for all those who would like to worship from home.
For those who plan to attend worship, we want you to know what Sunday will look like. You will be required to wear a face covering over your nose and mouth and maintain a six-foot distance from anyone not in your household, from the time you leave your vehicle until you are back in your car. If you are unable to wear a face covering for any reason, please join us for worship online. Please enter through the front doors of the sanctuary. When you arrive, your temperature will be scanned via a touch-less thermometer to ensure that you do not have a temperature above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit. There will also be an Entryway Health Acknowledgement form poster with questions you will be asked to answer. These will ensure that you do not have symptoms of COVID-19 or known exposure to COVID-19 in the last 14 days. There will be a hand sanitizing station available for you in the lobby/ narthex area of the church. One of our ushers will direct you where to sit. You will notice that every other pew has been blocked off to ensure physical distancing. All printed materials have also been removed to limit exposure and everything you need for worship will be on the screens at the front of the church.
Worship will look a little different. All worship leaders will wear masks for the entire duration of worship, but we will use microphones so you can hear us! You will be invited to bring your offering to the front rather than passing offering plates and we won’t do the passing of the peace since hugs and handshakes aren’t safe at this time. We won’t be singing, childcare, Sunday School, or Sip and Chats .
We know everything will look different, but we are looking forward to gathering together. We are limited to forty people in the sanctuary. If more people come to worship, we will have overflow seating in the Fellowship Hall, where you will be able to listen to worship and maintain physical distancing. By doing these things we are loving our neighbor by caring for the health and safety of our congregation and community. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me. I look forward to seeing some of you in worship on Sunday.
Grace and Peace,
Devon Maust Earle
